Creation of the Biennale de Paris by André Malraux, Minister of Culture and writer. The objective was to provide Paris with a major artistic event, to present a panorama of young international creation and to make it a meeting place where the new modalities of a future art were to be experimented. The Biennale de Paris is the third biennale created in the world after Venice and Sao Paulo. Its first edition was inaugurated on October 3 in front of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (MAMVP) with "Méta-Matic 17", a machine-sculpture installation by Jean Tinguely powered by an engine that produced drawings on a production line, a work considered avant-garde at the time.
