Son of an art historian and a ceramist, Gnoli (Rome, 1933 - New York, 1970) was a bon vivant (a “golden boy who succeeded in everything”, as the New York gallerist responsible for the rediscovery recalls) who devoted himself to theatrical scenography in London and Paris, to painting for simple personal pleasure, to illustration in renowned magazines (Sports Illustrated, Horizons...) and to traveling the world. Since 1963, he has lived in Spain, in the bohemian village of Deyá (Balearic Islands), where he met and married fellow artist Yannick Vu. “I always use simple elements to which I neither add nor subtract anything. I do not intend to distort them: I isolate and represent them. They come from everyday life and I don't want to act against them. I feel the magic of their presence,” explained the artist in one of the few surviving statements from his short stay in the world.  ( thanks to Wikipedia.org )
