The personal and artistic career of Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937) is very representative of his generation. He was born during the Civil War, was educated in post-war Madrid, and lived in exile in France during the Franco dictatorship until he decided to return to Spain in 1976, with the promise of the establishment of democratic freedoms. Arroyo represents the continuity of an artist's identity generated by the avant-garde in the 1930s, and to whose configuration Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró contributed decisively. In Arroyo's case, it is an identity marked by the behavioral patterns of “the Spanish”, which influences his creative trajectory.
