Barcelona 1992 Summer Games, 257 events were held in 25 Olympic sports. Badminton and baseball debuted on the official programme, women's judo categories were included, and slalom canoeing returned after an absence of twenty years. Among the most outstanding athletes, the Belarusian Vitali Shcherbo won six gold medals in artistic gymnastics; the Hungarian Krisztina Egerszegi certified her reign in swimming with three gold medals; the athlete Carl Lewis added two more victories to his list of achievements; and the United States basketball team, formed for the first time with the best professional players in the NBA, was unbeaten champion with victories of more than thirty points.
