Since the first Games of the modern era in Athens in 1896, posters have played an important role in popularizing the Olympic Games. They have also served, once every four years, to identify both the host city and a particular aesthetic linked to the overall image of that year's Games. With this history in mind, the COOB'92 developed a very ambitious project, involving 58 different posters grouped into four collections: the official Olympic posters, painters' posters, designers' posters and photographic sports posters.
For the four official sports posters (the work of Josep M. Trias, Javier Mariscal, Enric Satué and Antoni Tàpies) and the eight painters' posters (by Êduardo Arroyo, Antoni Clave, Eduardo Chillida, Jean-Michel Folon, Josep Guinovart, Robert Llimós, Guillermo Pérez Villalta and Antonio Saura), in addition to the usual print run, a limited edition was produced in silkscreen and lithography signed by the authors, which the COOB'92 used as a prestigious gift for the VIPs who attended the Olympic Games in 1992.
