Josep Guinovart i Bertran (Barcelona 1927-2007) was a painter, drawer and engraver from Catalonia, Spain. After studying at the Llotja School and at the Foment d'Arts Decoratives de Barcelona, he won a scholarship in 1953 from the French Institute for a five-month trip to Paris.
On his return to Barcelona and after a season working on illustrations and scenographic sets, around 1957 he began to move towards abstract art, his unconventional work, using three-dimensional elements almost constantly in his works, most of which are also large-format.
In 1994 a museum was opened in Agramunt dedicated to his work, a town where his mother was born and where he has always been linked.
He died on December 12, 2007, at the age of 80, after having been unable to overcome a heart attack he suffered a few days earlier.
