"Suite 1562" is Picasso's last great work. The 156 copper plates that make up the series were engraved by the painter between January 1970 and March 1972. If we bear in mind that the artist from Malaga died one year after its completion, this is the last great work of his life.
Although the first two prints are prior to 1970, the rest were made in several stages: from January to May 1970, Picasso recorded more than 50 plates. A second stage began on February 25, 1971 and lasted until June 16 of that same year, with almost 100 plates, including 38 dedicated to Degas and brothels. Finally, in March 1972, he made two more cobres that represent the end of the series. In Suite 156 Picasso maintains a lively dialogue with the great masters of painting: Rembrandt, Manet, Degas, Delacroix...
