Uruguayan artist (Montevideo, 1943) living in Spain, Aramis Ney was self-taught. His fellow countryman, the famous constructivist painter Torres-García influenced him, not so much in his way of painting as in certain essential aesthetic ideas, which lead to an existential attitude towards art: Torres García showed him first of all that the painter's vision should be situated between total abstraction and the imitation of Nature and that, in any case, it should be closer to abstraction than to naturalism
