Mark van Bommel FC Barcelona Membership Card 2016/2017 Season

2016/2017 Player Membership Card belonging to former FC Barcelona player Mark van Bommel. This card is renewed annually and is available to former players at the “Agrupació de Jugadors del FC Barcelona” office. The player did not collect it and it remained at the offices; during the Camp Nou refurbishment works, it was discovered along with others… all in perfect condition.

Looking to strengthen his squad, which had already won the title, Frank Rijkaard signed Van Bommel on a free transfer for Barcelona. Prior to his move, he spent the summer before relocating to Spain learning Spanish at a convent in Eindhoven.

Similar to his role at PSV, where he was mainly deployed as a defensive midfielder, he used his ball-winning abilities to complement the more skilful players already at the club. His sole season at Barça was a great success, as the club won La Liga and the 2005–06 Champions League. He won his third trophy with the club on 20 August 2006 when the team beat Espanyol in the 2006 Spanish Super Cup
