Josep Uclés i cifuentes (Badalona, 1952 - La Roca del Vallès, 2013) was a Catalan artist.
Uclés exhibited for the first time in 1972, at the Badalona museum, thus initiating an ascending artistic career, until he consolidated himself as one of the most outstanding painters of his generation. Among the highlights of the early years, it is worth mentioning his participation in 1978 in the exhibition Seny i Rauxa d'art avantguardista català, at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and in the exhibition Europa '79 in Stuttgart, which marked the beginning of the decline of European painting in the nineteen-eighties, and which represented the break-up of the progressive sense of the history of art, imposing a valuation of the individual over the trend, and from which neo-expressionism and Italian transavanguarda would be born. His incursion into international art has taken him to various countries around the world, enjoying the recognition of critics and the public, and his work is currently part of various public and private collections. In Catalonia, his work can be found at the MACBA, the Granollers Museum and the Badalona Museum, among others.
From a very young age he was linked to the independence and left-wing movements, and actively collaborated in various causes in defense of human rights and territorial causes. In January 2014, the Badalona City Council unanimously approved the naming of the exhibition hall of the El Carme Civic and Cultural Center after Josep Uclés.[8] The exhibition room of the El Carme Civic and Cultural Center was named after him.
