Collection: Josep Guinovart
Josep Guinovart i Bertran (Barcelona 1927-2007) was a painter, draftsman and engraver from Catalonia, Spain. After studying at the Lonja school and at the Fomento de Artes Decorativas in Barcelona, he won a scholarship in 1953 from the French Institute for a five-month trip to Paris. Upon his return to Barcelona and after a season working on illustrations and scenographic sets, around 1957 he began a move towards abstract art, his unconventional work, using three-dimensional elements almost constantly in his works, most of which are also large format. In 1994 a museum was inaugurated in Agramunt dedicated to his work, the town where his mother was born and to which he has always been linked. He died on December 12, 2007, at the age of 80, having been unable to overcome a heart attack suffered a few days earlier.
